When it comes down to it, Kanye West just did what we hope all artists will do: Yeezy just chose art over commerce. No one’s so naive to believe that the two don’t mix — we only hope that when they collide, art wins. Kanye kept it pure recently posting a photo (below) of himself kicking it (so to speak) with Kendrick Lamar. Thing is Yeezy is wearing some thick-soled Vans instead of his sought after Yeezy Boosts. That’s not how you save Adidas, as Fortune predicted Kanye might do when he signed his design/endorsement deal with the three-striped brand.

But Kanye can’t wear his Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 kicks everywhere — or all the time. His new single lays down the reality, too. In “No More Parties in LA”, Kanye admits/raps “some days I’m in my Yeezys, some days I’m in my Vans.” A style icon can’t be hemmed in. But man, Adidas aside, this Kanye pic on top of that lyric sure shows where the Vans brand stands — it’s the genuine, authentic article. (Vans calls one of its models “Authentic”.) Vans president Kevin Bailey told CNBC this about celebrities who love the Vans brand: “more often than not they ring our doorbell.” Ding-dong, Kanye here.
