Avid recycler Gary Gagdon of Charlotte, North Carolina invented ReKixx, a sneaker made of 100 percent recycled materials. The sneakers look and feel like canvas but the material is actually a special blend polyresin. Everything from the footbed, padding and lining are all recyclable, even the glue and laces. Nothing on ReKixx goes to a landfill.

When Gagdon pitched his business on Shark Tank, he made a deal with Daymond John but the deal ultimately fell through. Gagdon is still selling the sneakers on the ReKixx website for $44, and some on Amazon for $8.
