Lewis Hamilton is the 2015 Formula One World Champion racing driver from England. He won in 2014 and 2008, too. The 30-year-old is the first British driver in history to win consecutive F1 titles. Hamilton gives credit to his father, Anthony Hamilton, for his interest in racing. His father bought Lewis his first go-kart at the age of six, as a Christmas present.
Lewis Hamilton’s parents separated when Lewis was two years old. They both remarried. Anthony Hamilton remarried a woman named Linda whose son Nicolas is also a professional racing driver. Nicolas Hamilton, who has cerebral palsy, races with a specially-modified car. He is the first disabled driver to compete in the British Touring Car Championship. The 23-year-old says training for racing (working out in the gym, strengthening the muscles in his legs in order to drive) has improved his condition. And yes, he is inspired by Lewis. Growing up, “he was the guy I wanted to be.” Nicolas is certainly just as charming as Lewis (see video below). Lewis Hamilton will talk about his life, career and family on 60 Minutes on December 13 at 7pm on CBS.
