Reigning NBA champion and reigning NBA Steph Curry had everything working in the home opener of their defending campaign. The challenging Pelicans — with future MVP Anthony Davis having a tough night (4-for-20) — looked unworthy, perhaps stunned by all the bling in the house: the Warriors were given their rings in a big ceremony before the game as the championship banner was raised in Golden State for the first time in 40 years.
Steph Curry honored the occasion by scoring a point for every year in between Warriors championships. The Warriors played with persistence and tremendous confidence, winning each quarter including a 9-point edge in the decisive third quarter on route to a 111-95 victory. Winning each quarter is something coaches preach, breaking the game down into parts with special emphasis on avoiding a letdown in the third quarter after halftime. The Warriors are trying to perfect the 4-quarter formula that helped them raise the banner in 2015.
