On August 12, 2000, eight-year-old Midsi Sanchez was walking home from school. She was kidnapped just one block from her Vallejo, California home by serial child rapist/killer Curtis Dean Anderson. Anderson kept Midsi chained inside his car for two days. When she dared to grab his key ring and unlock her chains, Anderson went chasing after her. Sanchez was able to jump into a delivery truck and told the driver she had been kidnapped. Anderson fled the scene but the truck driver caught Anderson’s license plate number and called the police.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, Anderson was a former Vallejo taxi driver. Just one year before Sanchez’s kidnapping, Anderson abducted and strangled to death seven-year-old Xiana Fairchild. (She was waiting for her Vallejo school bus.) Anderson, 39, pleaded guilty to Xiana’s kidnapping and murder in 2005. He was sentenced to 301 years in prison. He died in prison two years later. Midsi Sanchez will be featured on They Took Our Child: We Got Her Back, a new series that will reveal the stories of abducted children who escaped from their kidnappers. It airs every Wednesday at 10pm on LMN.
