Actress Leah Remini left the Church of Scientology in 2013 after 30 years of being a parishioner. She discusses the repercussions of her decision on her reality TV show Leah Remini: It’s All Relative and she has written a book, Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology. Remini is currently promoting the book on TV shows including Good Morning America. Prior to her appearance on the show, GMA producers reached out to the Church of Scientology for a comment. The church released this statement: “It comes as no surprise that someone as self-absorbed as Leah Remini continues to rewrite history and exploit her former religion in a pathetic attempt to get ratings.”

Remini’s first reaction to hearing the statement is: “It’s sad to hear that from a group that I’ve been in most of my life.” But then Remini points out that it’s also interesting to hear such a statement from an organization that Remini says “doesn’t comment on former parishioners.” Remini will also be interviewed on ABC’s 20/20 on October 30 at 10pm.
