Although Suicide Squad doesn’t arrive in theaters until next summer, Harley Quinn has already made a psychotic dent in the culture. She is the most popular Halloween costume nationwide, according to Google’s Frightgeist, which tracks trends in Halloween shopping. Other comic book characters in the Top 10 include DC’s Batman, the Joker, and Wonder Woman (screw you, Marvel).
Frightgeist lets you search for the hottest costumes locally, which will come in handy if you don’t want to look like everyone else. Tinker Bell is by far the most popular character in Twin Falls, Idaho, and if you live in Altoona, Pennsylvania, expect to see a lot of giraffes showing up at your door looking for candy. In Presque Isle, Maine, they have no time for this comic book nonsense. The third-most popular costume is, curiously enough, Curious George. The second is … Pizza (not Lobster? Pizza, really? Photos, please, good citizens of Presque Isle). But the best-selling costume there – by a huge margin – is Clown. The people of Maine must be made of stern stuff, and scoff at the very real – and scientifically explained – fear of them. On the off-chance that tonight’s cosplaying leads to widespread massacre, let this article be a historical testament that Presque Isle, Maine was Ground Zero for the Clownpocalypse.
