A student at the prestigious Cults Academy in Scotland was stabbed to death, allegedly by one of his classmates. Described as a “very gentle” young man, Bailey Gwynne is being mourned by his school and community — and by people around the world. An RIP Bailey Gwynne Community page set up hastily on Facebook almost immediately received more than 2,000 likes — and counting as news spreads. One user from Spain represented the prevailing sorrow writing: “Just heard thus tragic news on TV here in spain. what a tragic waste of a young life. Thoughts are with your family. R.I.P young man.”
Gwynne was treated at the Royal Aberdeen Infirmary after being attacked at the school during lunch. Cults Academy principal Anna Muirhead said the school was “totally devastated.” People from all over the world feel the same. Another Facebook mourner wrote: “Such a tragedy. Taken far too young, so so cruel. Thoughts and prayers are with the family. So sad.” Gwynne’s attacker is in police custody.
