Football Night in America is the pre-game show on NBC lead by Bob Costas. He and a team of former players and sports journalists look at highlights of the day’s games and a preview of the upcoming match-up. Costas is joined by fellow sportscaster Dan Patrick, Rodney Harrison (two-time Super Bowl champ safety for Chargers and Patriots), Tony Dungy (former Colts coach), Hines Ward (former Steeler turned Dancing With the Stars winner), Peter King (Sports Illustrated writer), sportswriter Mike Florio, and the only female in the bunch, Kathryn Tappen.
In addition to Football Night in America, Tappen continues to appear on NBC’s NHL Live and Notre Dame Football. Get ready to see a lot more of the 34-year-old Jersey girl. She’ll be covering the 2015 Super Bowl, the Summer Olympics (Brazil, 2016) and the Winter Olympics (South Korea, 2018). Tappen’s own athletic prowess should be mentioned: as a student-athlete at Rutgers University Tappen was an Academic-All American and member of the track and field and cross country teams. She is the former record holder in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase. Oh, and she’s married to former professional ice hockey player Jay Leach who is now assistant coach for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, an affiliate of the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins.
