Last Wednesday just before Yoenis Cespedes joined the New York Mets in a move that delighted Mets fans (and Jerry Seinfeld), WFAN sports radio talking head Mike Francesa told everybody in his assured way that Cespedes was not for the Mets. Or as Seinfeld might have said — there’s no “Cespedes for the rest of us.” Not long after saying the Rockies wouldn’t trade Troy Tulowitzki — another certainty that turned out dead wrong — Francesa said:
“I can confirm for you now that the Mets and Cespedes is out. So that is out. So I don’t know where it went; it doesn’t matter. It’s out. There’s no Cespedes. So he’s off the list. It’ll now be elsewhere. So it will not be him. Scratch him off the list.” At least Francesa is just talking sports, and not running your stock portfolio. He was recently heard saying no way Facebook can compete with MySpace! Scratch that off your list. Francesca earns an estimated $5 million a year bringing his inside knowledge to sports fans.
