The (literally) giant New York Knicks gamble Kristaps Porzingis posted some video this week showing what no one in the summer league saw: Porzingis banging down threes. The big man is working out at Terminal 23 and he’s rolling around the horn taking passes at a leisurely pace, but he doesn’t miss. Not one. Another pretty good shooter was working out with Porzingis, too — the teammate he’ll most need to jibe with, Carmelo Anthony.

Porzingis has great form. His long range game is part of what helps optimists link his game to Dirk Nowitzki’s and Kevin Durant’s. (Pessimists fear Darko.) Porzingis hunkered down in the summer league paint to show he wasn’t just a gunner, to prove he’ll use his size inside and show some strength. But Porzingis is a finesse player at heart. That’s what Phil Jackson went looking for. Remember how Jackson used to call Toni Kukoc’s number and infuriate Scottie Pippen? Carmelo Anthony may have heard that story. (Porzinis below. Kukoc below that.)
