Midfielder Heather O’Reilly — or HAO, as she’s also known — has three Olympic Gold Medals and her eye on the ultimate soccer prize. The World Cup trophy. A veteran who played all 120 minutes in the US’s heartbreaking loss to Japan in the World Cup Finals four years ago, O’Reilly will be chomping at the bit to get on the field in the rematch with Japan on July 5 in Vancouver.
O’Reilly likely won’t start, despite a Twitter campaign (#FreeTheIrish) begun by fans to get her more playing time. But she’s a good barometer of the way the team feels going into the match. On Twitter she reports that “swagger level has reached an all time high.” Not sure if it’s all about the USWNT or just her own personal swagger, since she’s looking pretty pleased with her new “sick Yeezy 350s” from Adidas. The kicks are from the Kanye West-Adidas collaboration. The USWNT will apparently enter the Finals the way Kanye takes the stage.
