Newly acquired free agent forward Derrick Williams hasn’t had the NBA career he expected. The #2 pick in the 2011 draft, Williams disappointed in Minnesota and didn’t make a big impact in Sacramento last season either. But Knicks guru and hoops legend Phil Jackson has made a living seeing more than others see — and Jackson just brought Williams to Madison Square Garden for two years at $10 million.
After stints in Minnesota and Sacramento, the lights in New York City will be pretty bright for the 24-year-old Williams. He seems to know that the stage is set, and that the “if” that’s been following him around since his rookie year just got bigger.
