Jack Nicklaus long ago said Tiger Woods would own all of his records, including the statuesque 18 professional majors. Woods is famously stalled at 14, having last won a major in 2008. These days Nicklaus sounds like a concerned grandfather when he speaks about the former world dominator. Woods usually brings his very best, no matter what the state of his game, to Nicklaus’s Memorial Tournament, where he’s won five times. But Woods carded an 85 on Saturday, his highest score ever as a professional.
Talking to the broadcast after Tiger’s 85, Nicklaus said: “Tiger’s running from teacher to teacher. In today’s technology, I think Tiger just needs to go back and review some of his own things rather than listen to somebody else.” Nicklaus finished with a sort of verbal open letter to Woods: “Please go do that, because the game needs you, Tiger. You’re a good player, you’re a good guy and we miss the game you’ve been playing.”
