The first question that comes to mind is will Walmart’s Tahoe have drones? Amazon Prime does lots of cool things — free delivery, streaming shows, etc. But the battle for the future really begins when the waiter forgets a lime wedge for your margarita and Amazon sends one to your table with a drone before you can get the waiter’s attention. (He’s posting on Instagram, wouldn’t you know.)
Or will that be Walmart with your lime? The big box behemoth is launching a service called Tahoe to compete with Prime, according to The Information. Walmart has been playing catch-up in the tech game but the company knows it needs to compete outside the (big) box, as it were. Jeff Bezos’s company hasn’t quite arrived at sending drones to your table yet — there are some legal hurdles — so Tahoe, if perfectly executed, could still compete. But Amazon appears miles ahead in data collection and cloud services. You might even say it’s already flying.
