On Real Housewives of Atlanta, Phaedra Parks sits down with her friend Sarah Jakes. Sarah’s the daughter of megachurch pastor Bishop TD Jakes, who is a staunch proponent of abstinence education. Sarah rocked the congregation when she got pregnant at 14. Then she announced she was divorcing her husband, NFL linebacker Robert Henson after just four years of marriage–she got married at 19. Although Sarah described her divorce as “another church mess,” Phaedra believes Sarah handled her situation with dignity.
While talking with Sarah, Phaedra broke down. Phaedra said her marriage was “madness every day.” She’s still not sure if she made the right decision. “I said I would support him even though the criminal trouble,” said Phaedra. “I probably should have left then but I didn’t want people saying that I wasn’t supportive.” In a rare moment, Phaedra allowed herself to be vulnerable on camera. “For the first time in years, I have peace.” Jakes understands and is living proof that there’s hope Phaedra will find happiness again; Jakes remarried in November. Her husband is megachurch pastor Touré Roberts of Hollywood’s One Church International. Too bad they live in LA — Jakes would be a breath of fresh air in Atlanta.
