Remember Holly Cleary on True Blood? The waitress/witch at Merlotte’s? Well, she’s making her way to the White House. Ok, not Holly but the actress who plays her, Lauren Bowles. On the hit political soap opera Scandal, Bowles will guest star as first lady Mellie Grant’s sister, Harmony. The apperance of Harmony gets GOP leader Elizabeth North worried. She believes Harmony will have a negative effect on her political plans. But hey, Elizabeth always has a backup plan.
Lauren Bowles isn’t all drama all the time. She can be funny, too — just like her half-sister (on her mother’s side) Julia Louis-Dreyfus (VEEP, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Seinfeld). Bowles’ next big role is in a comedic film called Is That a Gun in Your Pocket? It’s inspired by the ancient Greek play Lysistrata, and set in a small town in Texas where all the women band together and withhold sex from the men until every gun in town is vanquished. Bowles stars with funny lady Cloris Leachman (Young Frankenstein, Malcolm in the Middle), John Heard (Home Alone, Big), David Denman (Parenthood, The Office) and SNL alum Horatio Sanz. Scandal airs Thursdays at 9pm on ABC.
