Breaking his silence and needing to tell a good yarn, newsman Brian Williams couldn’t help but comment on the dress color controversy Buzzfeed drummed up recently. Blue and black, gold and white? Williams was hearing none of it. “That dress is green and orange,” said the (temporarily) deposed NBC anchorman.* “Trust me, I’ve had time to think it over.” A lunch companion noted that Williams had 12 years to think over his fabricated tale of having his helicopter shot down in Iraq. Williams replied that he still has the eye for news. “The dress is news,” he said, “Americans aren’t interested in what happens in Iraq.”
Williams has obviously been practicing his veracity during his time off. Everything about that last assessment passes the sniff test. As for the dress being green and orange, he’s probably just trying to stir up some attention. Hey, that’s part of the job, too. Five months to go on Williams’ suspension.
*in an attempt to be true to the subject, none of this is true.
