UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Lyoto Machida, has an interesting background. Nicknamed ‘The Dragon’, Machida was born in Brazil to a Japanese father, a Shotokan karate master named Yoshizo Machida. Lyoto earned his black belt at the age of 13. As a teen, he began training in sumo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. His ability to blend his skills in Karate and Jiu-Jitsu (and wrestling and sumo) makes him, as he says, “fully prepared for any situation” in the MMA Octagon.
Outside of the Octogon, Machida has been dabbling in another sport — skateboarding. Machida posted a couple of pics of him with his “new toy.” He says it’s “so easy, fast and sooo fun!” Watch out, Tony Hawk!
