The competition for attention is pretty stiff in Times Square, and the strategy to win it leans toward the spectacular. But now an ad billboard–the industry calls it “outdoor media”–in front of the Times Square Marriott Hotel is raising everybody else’s spectacular by one–at least one. The new billboard features a 24 million pixel LED display and takes up an entire block.
An estimated 300 million people a day will pass by the screen–and now a few extra just to see it. The original offering price to advertise on the football field size screen is about $650,000 a week, according to Reuters. Vornado Realty Trust built the behemoth.
