Metal band Slipknot’s song Goodbye is about the death of founding member and bassist Paul Gray, who died in 2010 from a drug overdose. Frontman Corey Taylor says: “”It’s about all of us sitting in my house steeped in numbness and incredulous sadness — that one will probably be one I’ll never be able to do live because I’ll lose it.”
Taylor says he hopes fans can learn how to deal with the grieving process through the song which is on Slipknot’s new album 5: The Gray Chapter. From verse 1 of Goodbye: “But this moment will show us the rest of our lives/ No one is going to save us this time/ No one can know what we’re feeling, so don’t even try.” While most fans appreciate the emotional release, some do not and are now referring to the band as “Softknot.”
