He strides the fairways a giant childlike figure, his gait bounding along to the unheard tune of I’m bringing home a baby bumble bee. And yet despite what seems like the least athletic comportment of any top-tier professional athlete, Phil Mickelson lopes and smiles and wins. Until this past year, which was a frustrating one for Phil. He’s looking to rise up–and slim down–for 2015.
Phil reportedly has a goal of losing 20 pounds. He’s halfway there, according to his performance coach, Sean Cochran. Mickelson–a true sports fanatic–knows the score when it comes to what’s happening in the sports world. So the 5-time time major winner looked around and decided to take a page out of the LeBron James playbook. LeBron famously lost 20 pounds on a serious diet this summer for his return to Cleveland. And since Phil just took a very casual job coaching under his brother at Arizona State, he’s returning home (ASU is his alma mater) just like LeBron did. Phil figured he may as well drop the weight too.
