The gifted San Antonio Spurs forward Boris Diaw played a critical role in San Antonio’s championship run last season. Diaw can guard almost every position on the floor–including giving LeBron James trouble–and he sometimes looks like Magic Johnson dishing assists. Speaking of dishes, the 6’8″ Frenchman knows something about them–his palate is sophisticated and he likes to exercise it.
So the Spurs have a clause in Diaw’s contract that requires Diaw to get on the scale three times a season. If Diaw weighs 254 pounds on October 25, he gets a check for $150K. Same weight on the Tuesday after the All-Star Game, another $150K. And if big Boris Diaw weighs in at 254 on April Fools’ Day, he gets $200,000. No fooling. (The details come from ESPN.) It’s just a little reminder, really. Diaw makes more than $7 million a year anyway on his current three-year contract. But the clause keeps him conscious of his calories. Diaw doesn’t seem too worried. Besides black, the Spurs uniform color, is slimming.
