If people wonder why beauty contests are a bizarre, outdated concept, point them in the direction of the Miss Hitler Pageant. Yes, it’s a real thing, according to Vocativ. On a Russian social media site there is a page looking for beautiful young ladies who admire Hitler and hate Jews to post pictures of themselves. “On VKontakte— Russia’s Facebook—Russian and Ukrainian Nazis and the people who love them, are voting for their favorite pictures of proud, beautiful anti-Semitic women posted to the site’s ‘Adolf Hitler’ group page. Boasting more than 7,000 followers, the page describes itself as a group of Russians and Ukrainians who pay tribute to Hitler.” The official name of the contest is actually “Miss Ostland 2014.”
Contestants include Irina Nagrebetskaya from Kiev, Ukraine, who likes to listen to goth metal and post Hitler quotes. Her caption reads “Don’t forget! Adolf is his name, he’s our eternal race, he has been given eternal life.” Irina is facing stiff competition from St. Petersburg’s Ekaterina Matveeva. “Adolf Hitler’s position is genius and true, that races are different not only in appearance, but also in intelligence.” Prizes for the winners include jewelry featuring the occult runes that the Thule Society liked so much, an Iron Cross pendant, and oddest of all, a DVD of History Channel’s Vikings. I know Nazis liked the Norse myths, but considering how much Fascists aped the Roman Empire, surely HBO’s Rome would be more appropriate?
