Walmart really did have a category called “Fat Girl” in its Halloween costume section at Walmart.com. It’s vanished now–like a ghost!–and hopefully the employee who created it is gone too. But that’s unlikely. The “Fat Girl” category may be gone, but offensive weight-based costumes abound on the Walmart site. Take the Men’s costume Fat Tinkerbell. Hilarious. You can be this funny, too, if you’re willing to dish out $52.95.
The Huffington Post reports that a Walmart spokesperson replied to an inquiry about the “fat girl” category: “This never should have been on our site. It is unacceptable, and we apologize. We are working to remove it as soon as possible and ensure this never happens again.” The company did not reveal how many it had sold, or if searches for “Fat Girl Costumes” were numerous.
