Facebook is suing four law firms that were involved in Paul Ceglia’s case against the social media giant. Ceglia sued Facebook and founder Mark Zuckerberg in 2010, claiming he owned some of the company. Facebook and Zuckerberg prevailed in the suit, which was dismissed earlier this year.
When you’re as rich as Facebook, other lawyers will take a shot at you the way regular people play the lottery. The thinking goes: sure it’s unlikely, but if it hits–yippeee! Facebook doesn’t want to be the target of people’s lottery dreams, so it’s trying a tactic not often employed: it’s suing the law firms who represent the “gold diggers” to send a warning to other firms who might take on a future case against the rich and powerful Facebook. It’s intimidation 101.
