The 27″ “Retina” iMac–a new line of ultra high-resolution Retina Displays–will ship this year according to insiders at 9to5mac, who credit KGI research for the news. The Retina iMac will be Apple’s first move into the high-res “Retina” displays for desktop computers. But Apple has been at the high-res game since 2010, when the iPhone 4 first shipped with Retina display. Apple added the Retina display to its iPad line in 2012. Later that year it added the Retina as an option to MacBook Pros. The new iMac will be the largest Retina display Apple offers.
The new display won’t be available on the 21″ screens until next year, according to the source.
