Amanda Fuller (Last Man Standing) played actress Brittany Murphy in the Lifetime biopic, The Brittany Murphy Story. Murphy, best known for her role in Clueless and for dating her Just Married co-star Ashton Kutcher, died in 2009 at the age of 32. While Murphy’s death was ruled accidental (pneumonia and anemia), her father has been trying to reopen the case on the suspicion that his daughter was poisoned. Murphy’s mother denies the claims. Murphy’s husband, Simon Monjack, was found dead five months after Murphy, from the same causes, in the same house.
What made Amanda Fuller’s job “a strange challenge” was a combination of the short schedule (it was filmed in 16 days) and not having access to Murphy’s parents. Fuller told Variety: “…I wish I had access to her mom and could ask her everything.” Fuller will return to her regular, less strange, TV job this fall, playing the daughter of comedian Tim Allen in the fourth season of ABC’s Last Man Standing, which will premiere on October 3, 2014.
