Adult female gamers spend more time playing video games than boys under the age of 18 in the US. Grown men still account for the majority of the gaming population, it’s not by much. 48 percent of gamers are female. (It was 40 percent in 2010). The gaming industry expects to generate sales of $100 billion this year.
The Entertainment Software Association says the increase in women is partly due to a widespread smartphone adoption of games. “[Many] women who previously only gamed with their families are now embracing gaming as an individual leisure activity as well,” Nielsen analyst Nicole Pike explained to The Wall Street Journal.
