The Growing Pains actor Kirk Cameron is starring in a new film, Saving Christmas. In a limited run, it will be released on November 14. Cameron, a conservative activist, intends to “put Christ back in Christmas” by focusing on the biblical story behind the holiday.
In the promotional poster for Saving Christmas, Cameron wields a giant candy cane as if to take swipes at the non-Christian objects that are flying about him — decorated trees, wrapped presents, and loose dollar bills. In his arm, he is cradling a glass globe which appears to contain a golden nativity scene. Cameron said in a statement, “For too many years Christmas has been attacked and hammered by those outside the church, and it’s even changed how we think about Christmas inside the church.” Saving Christmas is the first project in a three-film deal Cameron has sealed with Provident Films. Saving Christmas is produced in partnership with Liberty University, a nonprofit Christian University located in Lynchburg, Virginia.
