Apple has scheduled a big media event for September 9. That “big” has to mean the iPhone, according to avid Apple watchers. September is iPhone month, after all, in the Apple annals. Re/Code says that at its annual Code conference earlier this summer an Apple senior executive said this year’s fall product line-up was the “best he’d seen in his 25 years at Apple.” Wow, because in the first quarter of 2014 Apple sold 51 million iPhones. There must be some incredible stuff coming besides the iPhone 6, but let’s get back to the iPhone.
It’s the iPhone 6 speed upgrades and big displays that everybody’s geared up about. Could your next iPhone have a 5.5″ screen? (And does the “phablet” size spell doom for tablets, btw?) Respected Apple watcher SonnyDickson says the iPhone 6 will also bend like a superhero in a crisis. And there may be game-changing functionality. 9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman thinks this is finally the iPhone generation that will incorporate a mobile payment service–the iTunes of everyday transactions. The NFC (Near Field Communications) technology that would underpin the payment service has improved, and those advances have fueled the rumors. September 9. Tell Siri.
