Dong Nguyen is the Dave Chappelle of video games. Nguyen astonished onlookers earlier this year when he walked away from success the way very few people ever do. When Nguyen shut down his extraordinarily popular Flappy Bird app it was earning by some counts $50,000 a day. But he shut the game down because at the time, as Nguyen tweeted, “Flappy Bird…ruins my simple life. I hate it.” That’s where the Chappelle comparison comes in. In 2005, the comedian famously walked away from a Comedy Central deal worth $50 million over two years to continue doing his insanely progressive and popular Chappelle’s Show. Like Nguyen, his work was making everybody happy but himself.
Now Dong Nguyen is back with a game called Swing Copters–you just knew it had to take place in the air! But you wouldn’t have guessed it would look exactly like Flappy Bird. Swing Copters is free with a $.99 touch to remove the ads if you wish. It comes out Thursday, August 21. Now if only Dave Chappelle would make a new show and have it look almost exactly like his other one…that would be as addicting as, say, Flappy Bird!
