Elizabeth Berkley is trending due to the upcoming TV movie exposé on Lifetime. The movie is based on a tell-all book by her Saved By the Bell castmate Dustin Diamond. Berkley, a former model, captured the hearts and developing libidos of millions of pre-teens and teens as Jessie Spano on the early 1990s TV show Saved By the Bell. She then infamously parlayed her fame into a starring role in one of Hollywood’s most notorious box office disasters: Showgirls. In the film Berkley proved that film acting is a real skill that she did not possess. (She has received much praise for her subsequent stage roles.) Nor did she possess–or at least wear–very much clothing during Showgirls, but even her glorious nudity wasn’t enough to raise temperatures or ticket sales, only laughter. But people like to laugh and to watch gorgeous people nude–turns out they just like to do it in the privacy of their own homes: Showgirls is one of the most watched videos of all time, making more than $100 million in rentals.
Ironically, perhaps, Dustin Diamond’s book, Behind the Bell, was popular because it exposes what went on behind the scenes of the popular show between castmembers like Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, Berkley and Mario Lopez–many of whom went on to successful entertainment careers. But Berkley, who provokes the most curiosity in people (see the trending), would seem to have already exposed everything possible! Famous–or notorious–for her dancing in Showgirls, Berkley was a natural choice to appear on Dancing with the Stars, which she did in season 17. (She did not win but her episodes are expected to do well on Netflix!) The Elizabeth Berkley character will be played by Supernatural‘s Tiera Skovbye.
