Thrill-seekers rejoice! There is another death-defying theme park ride for you to throw yourselves off of! The Sky Tower in Denmark may just take the cake as the scariest theme park ride…ever. It’s also probably the most simplistic idea for a ride as well. The Sky Tower in Tivoli Friheden is a free fall ride with no brakes, mostly because there is no vehicle. It’s just you, plunging towards the earth from the top of a 130-foot-tall tower into a net–a staggering 100 feet below you. According to the park’s website when you take the fall, your body will experience 4G sensations as you zip towards the ground at an impressive 55 mph.
If you can watch the YouTube clip of folks rocketing towards the ground with no wires or safety harnesses and you don’t pass out or feel your stomach dropping, then maybe this is exactly the thrill ride for you. Keep in mind all participants must be at least 14-years-old and weigh between 110 and 265 pounds. Also, if you have back problems, heart problems, hypertension, epilepsy, fractures, any open wounds or (not surprisingly) a fear of heights, you won’t be allowed to participate. A number of these towers have opened worldwide and they are so terrifying that researchers have used them to simulate near-death experiences. If you get to the top of the tower and realize near-death isn’t your cup of tea—don’t fret. The park has built a dignified opportunity to chicken out. If you want to “just take the lift to the top and enjoy the view,” that’s allowed.
