What prompted Clint Eastwood (aka “Dirty Harry”) to adapt the musical Jersey Boys for the silver screen? He told The Los Angeles Times it was the diamond in the rough stories of the Four Seasons that intrigued him. Referring to Frankie Valli, Tommy DeVito, Nick Massi and Bob Gaudio, Eastwood pointed out: “They did jail time; they came from a rough place. These were very interesting people.” Plus, they’re all of the same generation. Like Clint, Valli and company knew Elvis, too.
Eastwood shot the $40 million film in the Four Seasons’ native state of New Jersey but didn’t meet with fellow Republican, Governor Chris Christie. Although Eastwood said “I’m a Chris Christie fan” back in 2011 when the Governor was rumored to be a presidential contender, Christie dissed the movie icon on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon a year later–after Eastwood’s “rambling diatribe” at the 2012 Republican National Convention.
