Actor Justin Theroux is known for his roles in movies including Mulholland Drive and American Psycho, and in the current series The Mosquito Coast (based on the book written by his uncle, writer Paul Theroux, which was also turned into a movie starring Harrison Ford), among many others.
Observant Batman fans know Theroux, too. For a split-second cameo, Theroux appeared in the 2019 movie The Joker — on a TV screen. He played actor Ethan Chase, a guest on Murray Franklin’s talk show, which is playing on a TV in a scene with Joaquin Phoenix (The Joker).
After filming The Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, director Todd Phillips, Lady Gaga (who’s playing Harley Quinn, see above) and music producer George Drakoulias, met Theroux (and his dog Kuma) at Ray’s Bar in New York City.
When Theroux shared the photo above, he captioned it: “Midnight jokers” and used the hashtag #ethanchase. While Batman fans are going wild over the reference (and apparent confirmation that Ethan Chase/Theroux will appear in the upcoming sequel), more than one Theroux fan admitted that they didn’t even notice Lady Gaga was in the photo because “All I saw was Kuma.”
Another chimed in: “I love Kuma so much I failed to see Gaga until I read the comments. Kuma is such a scene stealer.”
Ray’s is a favorite hangout for Theroux. As seen in the photo below, he occasionally gets behind the bar.
