Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy has proposed deep cuts to what for many Americans are essential programs as part of his game of chicken with the debt ceiling deadline looming. The Speaker got the House of Representatives to pass a bill he champions as a step toward responsible spending, using the legislation to hold the American economy “hostage” — as White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre puts it — in the debt ceiling negotiations with President Biden‘s White House.
But while political gamesmanship is being played in the DC “swamp,” social media featuring real people unfiltered are having a say about it, including a disabled military veteran who says the GOP is using veterans “as props.”
McCarthy’s cuts include slashing benefits for veterans, Medicaid recipients and users of food stamps — AKA the SNAP program.
Saying how the Veterans Administration is already underfunded, the emotional veteran with the TikTok handle Logangrey87, says: “Brothers, sisters, everyone in between, if you served this should make your f%*ing blood boil.”
Veterans, he says, already “die waiting” on health care and medicines.

In a monologue laced with profanity and bubbling over with frustration, the TikTok-posting soldier says those in McCarthy’s party “don’t give a F*&k about us. We are props.” The comments are filled with commiseration.
It does make my blood boil. I served for 6 years as did my 7 brothers. My father served for twenty years. I have ALS that is service related. The care and devices I need will be eliminated. These people know that raising the debt ceiling is compulsory.
