On Season 14 of Shark Tank, an entrepreneur from Florissant, Missouri, Sofi Seck, pitches her business, Expedition Subsahara, a line of handmade, woven baskets and African-inspired home-decor. As seen in the video below, the Taya basket is the company’s best-selling woven storage solution.

In Senegal (where Seck was born) “girls are taught to weave from a very young age.”
The company website reports that Expedition Subsahara is earmarking a portion of sales to build and operate a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) school for girls” in Senegal.
