The great basketball star, businessman, DJ and comedian Shaquille O’Neal uses his fame to promote all sorts of things, from Carnival Cruises to Icy Hot pain relief. But Shaq isn’t just a shill for commercial enterprises.
Nope, this big-hearted giant man of the people also uses his public persona to promote accord, even in the most seemingly unlikely arenas. That’s why it’s no surprise to see Shaq giving a shout out to Clippers and Cops, a program that works to connect police officers with young people in the communities they serve — and which focuses on communities of color. Check out the video below.
Shaq is perfect for the promotion, since he is himself an honorary police officer. Shaq has said he has always wanted to be cop and, well, Shaq is a guy who makes his dreams come true. Shaq also likes to combine helping cops with hoops and helping kids, as you can see below.
He ends with a moving pledge with the kids in a huddle, having everyone say “I will respect my peers, my elders and especially my parents.” Yeah, Shaq!
And in the movies like Grown-Ups 2, sometimes, Shaq just plays the cop solo — looking like a whole police force unto himself! And the hair!
