One of the starting pitchers for the San Diego Padres is Cal Quantrill. The 24-year-old Canadian-born left-handed hurler was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 2013 MLB draft but decided to go to Stanford University instead. The Padres picked him in the 2016 MLB Draft. His father, Paul Quantrill, was a right-handed relief pitcher in the MLB for 14 seasons including a season with the Padres in 2005, the year he retired.
When not on the mound, Cal Quantrill spends time with his girlfriend Eastin Ashby, a former collegiate athlete (basketball and cross country at Emerson College) who now works for the MLB and NHL network. Her father was a pitcher in the MLB, too. Two-time All-Star Andy Ashby was a starting pitcher for the Phillies, Rockies, Braves, Dodgers and Padres before he retired in 2004.
On this day in #Padres history, Andy Ashby takes a no-hitter into the ninth.
