“What the hell is going on in here tonight?” asked amused TNT NBA host Ernie Johnson. First Charles Barkley confused everyone on set by breaking out his big idea that the present is a gift. No argument there, Chuck, let’s all live in the moment and be thankful.
But what Barkley meant is that “present” and “gift” are synonyms. He then pointed out that we call the present “the present” (as opposed to the future and the past) because it is a gift. Barkley seems to believe that’s how the present got its name — because we’re meant to treat it like a gift.
“We’re living in the present… That’s why they call it a gift.” 😂

Next up Kenny “The Jet” Smith credited a player with having a “repertoire of bags.” That’s when Johnson started wondering if there was something funny in the air. A repertoire of bags? The astute Shaquille O’Neal helpfully explained to Johnson: “Ernie, Ernie, you know what that’s called? Ebonics, Ernie. It’s how we talk in the ‘hood.”
