Russell Westbrook shouted out his younger brother Raynard on National Sibling Day and — as with almost everything Westbrook does — it was awesome. Westbrook’s dynamism on the basketball court is really unmatched. (There may be slightly better basketball players in the world — may be — but none more dynamic.) And Westbrook brings that same energy to his off-court activities, from business interests and fashion to advocating for fairness to his charitable work. Westbrook’s WhyNot? Foundation does a ton of good things for people all over, especially in Oklahoma City and Los Angeles, where he’s from.
His partner in that foundation? Brother Raynard, who also sends him encouraging texts at halftime of every game. These siblings are tight. And it’s especially cool because they definitely pulled some different bodies from the gene pool, even though they both obviously pulled the same smarts. It doesn’t look like Raynard can dunk from the foul line (then again, who knows?). But what’s just awesome is that for Russell — who can — that’s the least important thing in the world.
For Westbrook family comes first. He’s a proud dad and a very proud brother. As he wrote on National Sibling Day (April 10), “Love the Brodie to the END!!!!!” Last year Westbrook dedicated his new shoes to his brother for achieving his education goals and getting Master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma.
Russ wrote: “I am always inspired by you Brodie! The #WhyNot Zer0.1 “Masters” is dedicated to all the hard work you put in getting your degree. Proud of you bro. Love You bro.”
