NBA Legend Shaquille O’Neal recently joined the board of directors at Papa John’s pizza, and the big man is already spreading the good word about Papa John’s charitable work. Papa John’s is donating a million meals through the Feeding America organization. Shaq wants his tens of millions of followers to know that even though it’s April Fools Day, this very big — almost Shaq-size — donation is no joke. (The donated meals may not be only pizza, but it’s fun to consider what a million pizzas looks like.)
“Did everybody see this?” writes Shaq. “No April Fools’ here. Papa John’s is donating ONE MILLION meals.” Papa John’s gets Shaq’s big megaphone and more by putting him on the board. 2paragraphs wrote:
Papa John’s named the Big Aristotle to its Board of Directors and announced that Shaq had invested personally in nine stores in the Atlanta area. Nine stores may not seem like a lot considering that O’Neal is a part owner of 150 Five Guys burger restaurants. But when you consider Shaq is on the Board of Directors for the entire Papa John’s corporate enterprise, that gives the big man an interest in what is currently more than 5,200 Papa John’s pizza locations — including dozens in far-flung locations like China. (Papa John’s headquarters is in Louisville, Kentucky.) As far as grub goes, the score for Shaq right now is Pizza 5200, Burgers 150.
Feeding America describes the food security issue it is trying to battle like this: “every day, there are millions of children and adults who do not get the meals they need to thrive. We work to get nourishing food – from farmers, manufacturers, and retailers – to people in need. At the same time, we also seek to help the people we serve build a path to a brighter, food-secure future.”
