On Season 7 of My 600-lb Life, the cameras follow LaShanta White, a 39-year-old mother of four who, for the past two years, has relied on her live-in boyfriend J.T. and her children to keep her clean and fed. In the beginning of the episode, LaShanta explains that things have been tough after she and J.T. broke up. He told her if she lost too much weight “he wouldn’t be attracted to me no more.” He was supposed to help her get to Houston, too, to see gastric bypass surgeon Dr. Younan Nowzaradan aka Dr. Now. After the breakup, LaShanta admits that she’s depressed. “Every time I try to turn my life around and get my head above water it just feel like there’s something to trip me up and drive me back down.”

LaShanta worries about her future in her immaculate home in Kenner, Louisiana which is adorned with zebra prints. The blanket covering her legs, the pillows on her bed, two sitting chairs, the dining room table – even the window treatment is a black and white zebra print.
