Dirk Nowitzki already received the presidential treatment when former POTUS George W. Bush appeared via video at Nowitzki’s last home game. Bush invited Nowitzki to come paint with him if he got “bored” in retirement — and the crowd on seeing Bush went crazy with cheers.
Then on the final night of their respective careers, Nowitzki and fellow future Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade heard plaudits from another former POTUS, Barack Obama. Obama was in office when Wade won two of his championships with the Miami Heat and received Wade, LeBron, Bosh and company at the White House. (see below) He also received the Dirk and the Mavs at the White House when they brought the NBA title home to Dallas.
In congratulating both Wade and Nowitzki, Obama — who is in Europe for a conference — declared himself a big NBA fan and cited how both players were “not just all-time greats but class acts, too.”
From a big NBA fan, congrats to future Hall of Famers Dwyane Wade and Dirk Nowitzki—not just all-time greats but class acts, too.
