In the Magnum, P.I. episode “Black is the Widow,” a man named Roland McDowell (Jonathan Goldstein) is murdered during a carjacking which happens right after McDowell withdrew a lot of money from the bank. According to his will, his money was earmarked for charity, not his only child, his daughter Karen, who just hired Honolulu’s top detective Magnum (Jay Hernandez) to find out who killed her father. (Of course, there’s the possibility that Karen is hiding the money and by hiring Magnum she hopes to take suspicions off her.) During the investigation, Magnum poses as a doctor — a world-renowned vascular surgeon — on the same dating app the victim was using in order to find the killer, who may be praying on wealthy men.
Roland’s daughter Karen McDowell on Magnum P.I. is portrayed by Gia Mantegna. She is known for her roles on The Dead Girls Detective Agency (dead girl Charlotte Feldman), Criminal Minds (Lindsey Vaughan. see clip below), The Middle (Axl’s girlfriend Devin Levin), Under the Dome (Lily Walters), Gigantic (Vanessa King), and The Secret Life of the American Teenager (Patty), among others. Fun facts: She is the daughter of Criminal Minds star Joe Mantegna. Gia was born while her father was filming The Godfather: Part III; he was Joey Zasa in the film). Gia Mantegna made her acting debut at the age of 13 in the 2003 film Uncle Nino, with her father and Anne Archer. Magnum, P.I. airs Mondays at 9 pm on CBS.
