NBA next-gen superstar D’Angelo Russell keeps leading a surprising Brooklyn Nets team to surprising heights this season (7th place, likely playoff-bound in the Eastern Conference). The outrageously skilled 6’5″ guard who was the #2 pick overall in the 2015 NBA draft has been given the reins of this Nets team this year — and he has taken the leadership role to heart. Just 23 years old, Russell is a next generation NBA superstar who just stamped a comeback win over the Kings by scoring 27 points in the 4th quarter on his way to a career-high 44 points. But it was the win, not the individual accomplishment, that Russell focused on afterwards.

Those days in LA, where Russell’s Lakers future was being questioned instead of assured, are long gone. But the man still remembers, and he’s playing as if he has a lot to prove. Russell issued a warning to the league and its fans about both himself and his Nets after the stunning performance against the Kings — “y’all ain’t seen nothin’ yet. That’s all I’m gonna say,” Russell said. “Like I said, they got lucky, but the world hasn’t seen anything yet.” Duly noted, Mr. Russell.
