Captain Marvel star Brie Larson has demonstrated not just a tendency to explore the far reaches of the Marvel Universe (and the mountain top of box office results), the actress is also unrelenting in her desire to find common ground between people. Larson’s pinned tweet for over a year now has been a plea to people who disagree with her and call her names to please present their arguments (“help us learn together”), say why they disagree — she pledges she’ll listen. People forget, she believes, that we are on the same side. She writes, “remember I am on your side. I want our country to be strong and prosperous.”
“Don’t let anyone rob you of your imagination, your creativity, or your curiosity. It’s your place in the world; it’s your life. Go on and do all you can with it, and make it the life you want to live.” #MaeJemison pic.twitter.com/ohAAeEKnhZ

Speaking of strong and prosperous, Larson’s latest tweet is a quote from one of the most inspirational people on earth — when she’s on earth, that is. Larson couldn’t pick a better role model than Mae Carol Jemison, the American engineer, doctor and NASA astronaut who was the first black woman to travel in space — Jemison, 62, went up in the Space Shuttle Endeavor in 1992. Larson quotes Jemison, a model for everything we might achieve individually and as a society: “Don’t let anyone rob you of your imagination, your creativity, or your curiosity. It’s your place in the world; it’s your life. Go on and do all you can with it, and make it the life you want to live.” The quote was featured by Amy Poehler‘s Smart Girls a few years back. It’s as ageless as Jemison is weightless in the photo below!
