Actress Christina Ricci is back with short bangs on TV. She’s starring in the Lifetime movie Escaping the Madhouse: The Nellie Bly Story. Nellie Bly was an investigative reporter on a mission to expose the deplorable conditions and mistreatment of patients at the notorious Women’s Lunatic Asylum. Bly feigned mental illness in order to be admitted. The film is a fictionalized account of actual events. Inside the asylum, Bly falls into the barbaric hands of head nurse Matron Grady who is portrayed by Judith Light.

Actress Judith Light’s portrayal of Nurse Grady is striking and scary, but it won’t surprise those who have followed Light’s rich career. The two-time Tony Award (“Other Desert Cities”, “The Assembled Parties”) and two-time Emmy Award-winning actress is best known for her roles on Transparent (Shelly Pfefferman), Doubt (Carolyn Rice), Dallas (Judith Ryland), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (Judge Donnelly), Ugly Betty (Claire Meade, SEE LINK ABOVE), Who’s the Boss? (Angela Bower), and One Life to Live (Karen Wolek, for which she won an Emmy), among others. Escaping the Madhouse: The Nellie Bly Story premieres on Lifetime on Saturday, January 19 at 8 pm.
