Bed-Stuy native rapper Maino hits Love & Hip Hop New York with his girlfriend Maggie Carrie Heckstall for a big Season 9, which promises all kinds of action for the popular VH1 series. 45-year-old Maino served 10 years in prison for a teenage “drug related kidnapping” — but the “Hi Hater” rapper is long past his stretch — he got out in 2003. But recent history suggests Maino still might have legit concerns about If Tomorrow Comes. (That’s the title of Maino’s 2008 debut album, see link below.) If there’s a reason Maino might still worry about seeing tomorrow, he sees evidence every day in girlfriend Maggie, who has been a victim of “the life” since knowing Maino.

Maggie has overcome difficult circumstances herself before: as a child she was put in the foster care system when her mother was killed in a car accident. But the stakes are even higher as the girlfriend of Maino, who seems to attract trouble even if he isn’t making it. Think about it this way: if Maggie didn’t know Maino, she would never have taken a bullet in the leg. That’s right, in May 2016 Maggie was shot during a T.I. Concert at Irving Plaza in lower Manhattan. (She was backstage in a green room while Maino was performing with Uncle Murda before T.I. was to take the stage.) And strange as it seems to say, Maggie was lucky. One of the four people shot at the show died.
The New York Times report on the shooting said there were metal detectors at the show so the gun getting in was a mystery. The Times also wrote: “In 2009, T.I. pleaded guilty to three federal weapons charges stemming from a 2007 sting operation in which he was caught obtaining three machine guns and two silencers that had been bought for him. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one year and one day in prison.”
Now Maggie Carrie is launching her own singing career, with her appearance on Love & Hip Hop being a major step. Love & Hip Hop New York which airs Mondays at 8 pm on VH1.
